AISC 2016. HSS-HSS Moment Connections. In-Plane Moment Capacity

I agree. They have created a question that shouldn’t have to be. They could have covered it in the commentary or in an errata. I wish AISC would respond to your inquiry

I checked the errata’s, not there. I guess people will default back to the 2010 version.

I just read an article in Modern Steel Construction where they describe the reasons for reducing the tables in the latest spec.

It’s called “Connection Consistency” by Carlo Lini. You can find the article here: Connection Consistency

Aha, now that is something more useful. Thanks JAE.

I figured JAE would come to our rescue at some point! :grinning:

The Steel Tube Institute has also put together some tables that show the relationship between the 14th ed and the 15th ed (that is to say, which parts of chapter J are applicable to the limit states that had been found in chapter K previously). These can be found here: https://steeltubeinstitute.org/hss/hss-information/aisc-360-16/

Thanks for the info.

@dauwerda…helpful info! Thanks for posting and welcome!!

I nominate dauwerda for the next round! Raise ‘em high mates!

I’ll drink to that… don’t tell dauwerda that if held down on the floor, by a sufficient number, I drink to almost anything…

Thank you very much.

Cheers :beers:, I’ll take a Crown and Ginger.
And thanks for the welcome, as well as all of the valuable info I have gleaned from you guys over the years over at ET.

@dik…rumor has it that you don’t actually have to be held down to drink anything!

But, that CAN be arranged! :joy:

Just got back from the post office, Just bundled up another computer for my grandkids…

I’m not as strong as I used to be; it takes less effort to hold me down, and if truth be known, I never really struggled. My avitar is from my younger wild and wooly days.

My brother and I were on our way back to camp one evening at Sturges on Stu’s bike… he was doing the driving because he was more sober. A cop pulled us over and he blew 0.34. The cop told me to drive him back to camp.

:motorcycle::rofl:

@ Dik:

I take it you kept you mouth shut? :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Just told the officer I’d see that he got to camp. It was his bike and he was driving it… I should explain that he got his wallet out, flipped it open, got off the bike and fell flat on his face… I felt comfortable with him driving… That was nearly 50 years back; times have changed.

Couple of other interesting stories. One night we were cruising down Inkster Blvd in Winnipeg doing about 100, and he takes his hands off the handlebars and says, " See, it’s got a high speed wobble."…Lots of other stories… If he weren’t the driver, I’d have throttled him… 1000 Cows had a bit of a high speed wobble problem.
