Old Project

When scanning a bunch of negatives, I came across this old project. I did this about 1970 for a contractor. He was a contractor without a sense of humour. He didn’t think it would work and was less happy when I told him he should make sure he was wearing a hardhat.

It was a steel framed building with brick infill. Put a strip footing on the bottom of the wall and transferred the load through the brickwork.

I’ve always wondered about why they put steel in buildings when you can do this to it… It was a 10 or 15 storey building and is likely still standing… somewhere downtown Winnipeg.
