Purpose of Airlocks Spaces

QUESTION

Could you men kindly let me have an idea about airlock spaces (both pressure and heat resource) for HVAC field.

Do you mean the double-hatch-with-a-small-space-in-between arrangement that separates the air-conditioned interior of a ship from the climate outside, so that there is always a closed hatch to stop the heat from pouring in, even when people are going in and out?
