Sprinkler Design for Generator Room

QUESTION
I have a Diesel Gen Room in a new fully sprinklered hospiital. There are two generators with one 250 gal diesel fuel day tank (elec consultant has yet to determine if he will have one daytank serving both or two tanks 250 gal tanks). Is the appropriate sprinkler system design Ord Gp 2 or Extra Gp 1 for either scenario.

It depends on the arrangement of the fuel tanks and fuel oil piping systems. If all liquid supply and withdrawl connections are at the top of the tank, I have accepted OH2. If piping is below the tank’s liquid level I would specify a minimum EH1.

You should review NFPA 37 to determine if they have introduced any new requirements for fire protection of indoor engine-driven generators.
