Anyone had COVID Vaccinations yet?

I am blown away by the number of people who claim to do their own “research” to validate their ideas. Finding information on the web is easy…but validating the source is not, and explaining that to people is just not easy, nor fruitful. I have mostly given up.

A colleague believes that this is a nature’s way of restoring “survival of the fittest” and that the virus is going to continue to mutate until a significant fraction of anti-vaxxers have died off, leaving the more intelligent to continue the species.

I think that you just said the quiet part out loud.
I have wondered about a possible relationship between; Intelligence, education, and anti-vaxing.

Um, sort of… or mabe “if only”.

The mutations will continue to incubate, a little in the unvaxxed West, but largely in the vaccine-deprived South of the world.
In that hemisphere, the wise and the fools alike will be culled, for no good reason than the capriciousness of nature.

It is not going to make a difference, in the malthusian sense you are referring to.

To be a realist, but dease might be the solution to world hunger… To those who really believe the world is beyond it’s carry capacity, this must be a dream come true.

Then again, if you thought education is costly, look at the cost of not having one.

Sorry, these needed to be said. Not that I want the world to be that way.

My wife and I both had both Pfizer shots. We are now both positive for COVID.
I probably caught it at a rodeo. The time fits. My wife may have caught it from me or more likely at work, sanitizing COVID contaminated rooms at the hospital. (She is blaming me, but that’s life. A husbands place is in the wrong.)
My symptoms weren’t too bad.
Sleepy and lethargic, I woke up covered in sweat a couple of times, loss of appetite, and more joint pain than usual.
I felt about 10 or 15 years older for 5 or 6 days.
I am feeling pretty good today. My ten day isolation period is over on Thursday.
My wife feels tired and is spending a lot of time in bed.

Now about my only remaining effect is a strange compulsion to play Willie Nelson singing;
“I Woke up Still Not Dead Again Today”

Somebody get Willie a new guitar! Thanks for sharing that one. These are certainly the right times for Willie Nelson songs. Get well soon!

Thanks for your concern Spar. I think that I am over it. I got a notification this morning that my isolation period is over.
Poor wife has a day or so to go yet.

I’m pushing 80. Wife and I got our shots in March. If I were under 60 and in good health, I would not take an unapproved drug, released for emergency use.

But a vax is not enough for me. I do C, D3, B12, Zinc. Doing fine so far.

Ever wonder why you don’t hear hardly anything about therapeutic treatments? They exist and are apparently very effective.

And why is the pandemic worse this year than last, when there was no treatment available?

Something stinks in this whole thing! Big government, pharma, mainstream media, social media. Where is the free expression of ideas? Not today!

You don’t? I can’t seem to stop hearing about therapeutics whether I want to or not.

Though I don’t know this to be fact, from what I’ve heard, I would assume the reason for the disparity is because of the delta variant.

It certainly does stink no matter where you land in terms of good, bad, or whatever. I don’t think anyone is really enjoying this thing. Though I’d say free expression of ideas is at an all time high these days.

That would be denial of science and anti masking.

I’m 60 and in somewhat good health, and I took the shots. I also do C, D3, and Zinc, and am doing fine, so far.

I think the pandemic is worse, because of the lock down.So many people are just so social, that they can’t stand to be alone.

The shots are not free. Someone paid for them, like the tax payers. and exactly how much did we pay for them? This is the way big pharma wants it. No ones questions the profits.

Freedom of expression is right here. Just avoid the Google key reporting words.

Science states the survival of the fittest does it not? If so, most of big pharma is anti-science. But then again to live beyond about 50 is man augmenting science. So don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. It is a gift

I think you are confusing nature with science.

Nature states the survival of the fittest does it not? If so, most of big pharma is anti-nature. But then again to live beyond about 50 is man augmenting nature.”

Or did I misunderstand your point?

Man I wish I knew where you were hanging out. I can’t seem to get away from hearing about this. I’m tired of hearing people question the profits. No one I know thinks any of what’s going on is free.

Agree! I’m pretty sure my tax bill and the ever increasing deficit is paying for all this.

Uh, what if the fittest are those scientists and the people who believe in the science, i.e. rational, sane, intelligent people?

Interesting point, the fittest are the smartest. Not what we usually hear.

To my other point, I don’t believe the vaccine is free. But I also don’t know the real cost.

The real cost is hidden… until later.

Hi Latexman,
I have not had any vaccinations yet, this is now 9 months after you asked the question. The reason is that I have multiple myeloma, which affects the immune system. The fear is that since myeloma affects the immune system, the antibody response will not be sufficient to prevent the disease. I am now 79 years old and the recent death of Colin Powell tends to reinforce this.

Hi @Berkshire, I’m sorry to hear of your affliction. I wish you lots of luck!

I’m no MD, but my understanding is, none of the COVID-19 vaccines in the US contain the live virus that causes COVID-19. This means that a COVID-19 vaccine cannot make you sick with COVID-19. However, it is possible, though not very probable, you can catch Covid if exposed to the live virus after you are vaccinated, even fully vaccinated with a booster. It’s called breakthrough infection.

Also, I further understand Colin Powell was fully vaccinated well before he got infected. So, he had antibodies and still succumbed, but he was immunocompromised.

My only advice is listen to your Doctors and Specialists, and decide what’s right for you.

That is a real bummer, Berkshire. I wish you all the best in getting through the next few years without any adverse problems.

My wife’s BFF is fully vaccinated against COVID and she got her booster yesterday. She has lupus, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia. 3 out of those 4 are immunodeficient disorders. So far, no issues. Today she’s booking flights to go see her sister next week.
